Author and Economist Robert Kuttner (4.26.10)
Speaking on the topic his latest acclaimed literary effort, A PRESIDENCY IN PERIL: The Inside Story of Obama's Promise, Wall Street's Power, and the Struggle to Control our Economic Future, author and economist Robert Kuttner worked the intricacies into an hour long lecture hosted by Horizon at LA County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO.
Frequent Huffington Post contributor and co-founder and co-editor of The American Prospective, Mr. Kuttner explored the expectations and disappointments of President Obama's first year, the movement that concerned citizens need to build, and how Obama can still become the President many in the audience hoped he would be.
Kuttner went on to reflect on past presidents, as when Barack Obama took office, he faced a Roosevelt moment. The old order was totally disgraced, and the stage was set for transformative change. But his first year was, at best, a learning experience and in many ways he did not rise to the occasion. He felt that the economy still faces a long period of stagnation and suffering, and not enough has been done to correct Wall Street’s domination of Main Street--unless Obama delivers stronger medicine.
